Justin King, Chief Executive, Sainsbury’s became president of IGD on 1 January 2009. The president is a figurehead and chairs the Policy Issues Council (PIC) – a forum for chairmen and chief executives of the food and grocery industry which debates topical issues and spearheads change and improvement to deliver more for consumers.

PIC meets regularly to engage on several projects each year. These projects deliver important improvements across the industry, in areas where IGD members can work together.

Biographical information

Justin King Justin King has been chief executive of Sainsbury’s since March 2004. Before joining Sainsbury’s, he was director of food at Marks & Spencer and prior to that held senior positions at ASDA/Wal-Mart and was managing director of Haagen-Dazs UK. His early career was at Mars Confectionery and Pepsi International. As well as being president of IGD, Justin is a member of the CBI President’s Committee and is a patron of Skillsmart Retail, the national sector skills council for retail. He sits on the Board of Bath University Management School and is a Visiting Fellow of Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation. He is a non-executive director of Staples Inc. Justin lives in Warwickshire with his wife and two teenage children.

Charles Wilson Charles Wilson joined Booker as Chief Executive in November 2005, from Marks & Spencer where he was Executive Director for Property, IT and Supply Chain. Charles started his career in 1986 with Procter & Gamble. From 1987 to 1991, he was a consultant with OC&C Strategy Consultants. In 1991 he founded Abberton Associates. In 1998 he joined Booker plc as Executive Director responsible for branches, supply chain, strategy and systems. In 2000, he was appointed Managing Director of Booker Cash & Carry, within the Iceland Group plc. From 2001 to 2003 he was Executive Director of Arcadia Group plc, responsible for strategy, property, supply chain and systems
