"I enjoy the opportunity to stretch myself and learn about new areas of the supply chain"
I joined IGD in January 2008 having spent more than 10 years in a variety of different roles in operations, demand planning and supply chain development with RS Components, InBev UK and most latterly Coca-Cola Enterprises. My last role as Customer Logistics Manager saw me working with CCEs major wholesale and licensed customers to understand and manage both their current and future supply chain requirements.
Here at IGD there are two main elements to my role. I’m responsible for managing our Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) workgroups on Sustainable Distribution and On-Shelf Availability and I contribute to our Supply Chain research programme.
There’s never a dull moment managing our ECR workgroups; I travel all over the country, get to work closely with people with vast experience of the food and grocery industry and together we develop best practice solutions to some of the greatest challenges facing the industry.
Contributing to our research programme provides me with the opportunity to stretch myself and learn about new areas of the supply chain and I’m currently broadening our knowledge base on sustainable supply chains.
The role also provides the chance to get involved in things that perhaps I wouldn’t get the opportunity to do elsewhere. I’ve organised conferences and study visits, travelled to Sweden to deliver a collaborative based programme involving participants from across the food industry and I’m currently developing a new one-day training course.
While it sounds clichéd, really no two days are the same! One day I could be running an industry workgroup while the next I could be researching a new report, delivering training or speaking at a conference. It’s this diversity and variety that I enjoy most about my role.
IGD provides you with the opportunity to build on existing skills and develop a greater understanding of familiar subjects but it also challenges you to explore new areas and get involved in very different things.
