Global training for Account Managers, Category Managers and Trade Marketing (global branded supplier)

Since 2004, IGD has been working in partnership with a global branded supplier to develop and deliver an international training programme to strengthen engagement with key customers – many of whom are growing in scale, enabling technologies, professional skills and demands for more collaborative management.

Enriching expertise

IGD has enriched the company’s internal expertise with relevant knowledge, insight and capability to help define in simple terms “what good looks like” and develop common performance measures, processes, templates, tools and terminology. Six hundred sales, trade marketing and category team members have been trained across Europe, America and Asia in mixed groups from different product divisions. Different learning styles, levels of experience and seniority of participants have all been taken in to account in the design of the programme.

Course content

Content and delivery is tailored for local operating companies by using relevant local retailers for case studies, within a global framework. Time is spent discussing local issues with each local operating company before the course to ensure key issues are tackled and referenced to local operations.

The programme is made up of e-learning, three workshops and two development project periods of learning-by-doing for results back-at-work; all over a period of six months for each group of 15 people.

The web-based learning materials give participants fast and user-friendly access to resources so they can hit the ground running.

Results

Teams apply what they learn to real situations very quickly during the programme and produce valuable results for the company in real time. Learning from real success yields levels of growth and compliance that other methods do not match.
 

Category Management training for European Retail Directors - France, Germany, Spain, UK

IGD recently delivered a training programme for a global customer services company that provided delegates with a better understanding of retailers’ strategies, in-store operations and category management. This was initially developed for six Retail Directors from France, Germany, Spain and the UK. Following a successful pilot it has now been rolled out to middle management across other markets.

An international approach

The workshops were interactive and practical comprising group exercises, case studies, best practice examples and store visits to stimulate participants to share their experiences and take an action-orientated approach. It included examples from France, Germany, Spain and the UK and retailers such as Aldi, Asda, Auchan, Carrefour, Casino, Mercadona and Tesco.

Results

  •  Increased participants’ awareness of retailers’ requirements and improved understanding of the current issues affecting in-store replenishment
  •  Provided an overview of the category management process, merchandising and in-store implementation
  •  Enabled and inspired participants to improve communication internally and externally on the above areas
