A practical one day training course to help you develop your understanding of sustainability specifically within the FMCG industry, and how key issues relate to your business.

From raw materials through to retailing and the end consumer, there are causes of and effects on sustainability. And as sustainability grows in strategic importance - affecting costs, reputations and relationships - you need to understand the impact that your business has on other parts of the value chain.

Combining latest industry thinking with the knowledge and experience of your tutors and fellow delegates, this course presents an end to end view of sustainability within the FMCG chain that will help you drive focus and resilience within your own organisation’s sustainability strategy.

Who will benefit from attending?

Whether you work within farming, manufacturing, processing or retailing, this course will equip you with the perspective you need, whatever your role, whatever your level.

New to sustainability
You’ve had limited experience with this issue. You want to understand the key elements within sustainability, how they integrate into the everyday aspects of business - economics, the environment and social issues – and how to deliver on all three.

With an existing understanding of sustainability
You already appreciate some aspects of sustainability in food and grocery. Now you want to learn how different points in the value chain impact sustainability, how key sustainability topics are linked and their effects on each other.

What you'll achieve:

The practical workshop includes discussions and group exercises

 Interactive and practical

  Group exercise

 Group exercises used throughout

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Understand how sustainability can be cost effective

  • Address the need to enhance supply chain resilience, now and in the future

  • Appreciate how sustainability can protect, enhance or damage reputations

  • Be aware of the complexity of value chains and the challenge of successfully delivering global outcomes

  • Understand how collaboration and long term trading relationships are important to sustainability

  • Recognise sustainability (environment, economic and social) impacts across the whole chain

  • Relate sustainability to all business activities – marketing, logistics, stock management, and planning

  • See the impact of sourcing, manufacturing, retailing and consumers on the sustainability of the food and grocery sector

  • Be clearer on how sustainability issues inter-relate; water and carbon for example

  • Relate to the role of business, government and consumers in delivering sustainability

Workshop delivery and materials:

This is an interactive and practical workshop with high levels of discussion and group exercises. Participants will receive a copy of the tutor’s presentation slides.

Delegates will have the opportunity to ask about key trends, key players and stakeholders and how to use IGD web based resources.

I would find it hard to improve on the content of the session; the content was very thought provoking, it was not a case of trying to persuade one way or the other & offered the opportunity for further review what was discussed

Really good insight into many of the issues faced by Grocery companies and importantly how they relate with each other

Relevant; very interesting; very informative; very practical; facts which can be used on a personal as well as business level

Good context was given as to the business case for sustainability and the moral imperative for action
